What OLL does
OLL orients the last-layer pieces so the U face becomes one color. Their positions may still be wrong, and PLL solves that next.
Two-look OLL and full OLL
Two-look OLL first orients edges with EOLL, then corners with OCLL. It is a reliable start with fewer algorithms. Full OLL handles all 57 shapes in one step, trading more recognition and memorization for speed.
Recognition basics
- Start from the U face: identify the dot, line, L, or cross.
- Once edges are oriented, read corner shapes such as Sune, Antisune, T, and P.
- Check the AUF, then start each algorithm from the same reference.
Before memorizing an algorithm, play its start state in the complete OLL catalog and watch the pieces move.
Where it fits in CFOP
OLL follows Cross and four F2L pairs, then hands off to PLL. Use the solver to walk through a full solve stage by stage.
